Peaceful cemetery — planning funeral expenses with dignity

Funeral Expense Insurance
Sterbegeldversicherung

A funeral in Germany typically costs between €5,000 and €15,000 depending on the type of burial, location, and chosen services. Most statutory health insurances no longer cover these costs. Our Sterbegeldversicherung ensures that your family receives a defined lump-sum benefit upon your death — sufficient to cover burial or cremation expenses.

This product is not a savings plan. It is a life insurance policy held within the mutual association, designed purely to ease the financial burden on surviving family members.

Burial Coverage

Covers earth burial, cremation, and associated costs.

Administrative Relief

Funds can be used for obituaries, certificates, and related costs.

Lifelong Protection

Cover does not expire — it is valid for your entire life.

Named Beneficiary

Benefit is paid directly to your chosen person or funeral home.

The Path to Coverage

1

Enquire & Receive Information

Contact our office by phone or email. We will send you a detailed information pack explaining the product, contribution levels, and conditions — at no obligation.

2

Submit Your Application

Complete the membership and insurance application form. Basic health questions may be required depending on the chosen benefit amount and your age.

3

Receive Policy Confirmation

Once accepted, you will receive your policy documents confirming your membership, benefit amount, and monthly contribution.

4

Benefit Paid When Needed

Upon your death, your named beneficiary contacts SONO with the death certificate. The benefit is paid promptly to cover funeral expenses.

Supplemental Health Insurance
Krankenzusatzversicherung

Germany's statutory health insurance (GKV) provides broad coverage, but significant gaps exist — particularly for dental care, hospital amenities, and income during extended illness. Our supplemental health insurance products are designed to bridge those gaps.

These products are intended for those already insured under the statutory system (Kassenpatienten) and function as a meaningful upgrade to the coverage already in place.

Krankentagegeld

Daily Income Replacement

If illness prevents you from working, this product pays a daily benefit to supplement statutory sick pay and protect your income.

Krankenhaustagegeld

Hospital Daily Allowance

Covers additional costs incurred during a hospital stay — such as parking, meals, and personal items — by paying a fixed daily sum directly to you.

ZahnPlus

Enhanced Dental Coverage

Significantly increases the refund rate for dental treatments, crowns, and prosthetics beyond the statutory fund's standard contribution.

Implantat

Dental Implant Coverage

Dental implants are rarely covered by statutory health insurance. Our implant product provides financial support for this often costly but necessary procedure.

Questions About Our Products

No. It is a life insurance product within a mutual association. You pay contributions over your lifetime, and the defined benefit sum is paid to your beneficiary upon your death. It is not a savings or investment account — the value is the certainty of the death benefit, not accumulated capital.
Yes. Many of our members hold both types of cover. The funeral expense insurance is administered under SONO Sterbegeld VVaG, while supplemental health products fall under SONO Krankenversicherung a.G. — both based at our Bottrop office. Contact us for details on combining products.
Age conditions apply to both product lines. In general, the sooner cover is taken out, the lower the contribution rate. Specific entry age limits and conditions vary by product. Please contact our office to discuss your individual situation.
The terms for contribution arrears and policy continuation are set out in the policy documentation provided at the time of membership. If you are experiencing difficulties, we encourage you to contact our office before any lapse occurs so we can discuss your options.
